1. Company History
Find out the agency's background and ownership. Is the agency locally owned, a franchise, or a corporation. Are the owners actively involved in the operation of the business? Are they certified or backed by a national company? Are they reputable and in good standing?
2. Years of Experience
The number of years the agency has been operating can indicate the stability and strength of the company. Are they drawing experience from other company's with a diverse national level of experience?
3. Employee Background Check and Training
Do they conduct a thorough background check? Are their caregiver's given or required to have training?
4. Licensed, Bonded and Insured
Is the agency and its caregivers Licensed, Bonded and Insured?
5. On Call 24/7, 365 Days a Year
Is a member of the office staff on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year?
6. Quality of Care Supervision
Does the agency conduct weekly calls to both the clients and caregivers to ensure quality of care? Does the agency conduct periodic in-home visits to observe the living conditions and confirm the client is receiving quality care?
7. Employee Continuity
It is essential the the same caregiver provide the services.
8. In-Home Visit Before Starting Services
Does the agency make an on-site visit to assess the situation and explain what services and resources are available to you. In addition to an initial home visit, the agency should provide a personal introduction with the caregiver.
9. Coordination with Medical Professionals
Does the agency work with the other agencies and medical professionals involved in your care when coordinating and planning your care?
10. References
Ask to be provided with a list of local organization's and professionals (ie: social workers, case managers). When speaking with these professionals a good question to ask is "Would you use them for yourself or a loved one?"
